THE BANSHEE

This morning I am in the kitchen brewing coffee. The intent is for you to wake up and smell it, for the aroma to percolate on your buds and waft all the way to your brain where it condenses into the fact that life is full of issues. Yeah, life is a battlefield with challenges wanting to snipe you down and minefields of conundrums wanting to blow you up. Life is a war-front where spiritual foes lurk everywhere with the intention to rip you up with rapid demobilizing fire power.

For some reason I have always found a similarity between fantasy and life. I think it is just the way my brain is wired. In the pleasurable cauldrons of fantasy, I have happened on some tidbits that have helped me to unravel some of life’s Gordian knots.

If you have been following me, you would have noticed that I am enamored with super heroes especially the X-men. One of the least recognized members of the X-men is the “Banshee”. An Irish mutant, Banshee possesses a “sonic scream,” capable of harming enemies’ auditory systems and causing physical vibrations. He has superhuman powerful lungs, throat, and vocal cords which could produce a sonic scream for various effects. The X-man is named after the banshee, a legendary ghost from Irish mythology, said to possess a powerful cry.

Thing is immediately we become born again, we cease to be who we once were, hence if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature…We become supernaturally mutated when we accept Christ, our genes are altered by a genetic recombination with the genetic material of the Almighty. Christians are spiritual mutants. The divine mutation turns us into living weapons but here’s the rub…most of the time we don’t know it! Even when we do, we do not act on this life changing knowledge. THIS IS THE TRAGEDY OF OUR FAITH!!!  LACK OF KNOWLEDGE IS WHY WE FALL LIKE FLIES ON THE BATTLEFIELDS OF LIFE!

If we are living weapons, what instruments do we then battle with especially since the weapons of our warfare are not canal. There is no need to go far; our power is in our vocal cords. Jesus said “neither shall they say, Lo here! Or, lo there! For, behold, the kingdom of God is within you”.  The power that seems to elude us is within us. The bible records that God heard the cry of the Hebrews before the exodus and had respect unto them. It is written that when the emancipated Jews faced the impregnable walls of Jericho, they were instructed to shout. When they obeyed, Jericho crumbled like a pack of dominoes.

One of my favourite scriptures is the one that says, “The shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous of the Lord, the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly, the right hand of the Lord is exalted. The understanding I had for ages about these verses is that the shouts of the celebration came about by the right hand of God performing great feats for us. However, recently, I saw it from another perspective, which is that it is our shouts of joy and victory moved the hand of God. Then the hand of God did valiantly and it became a circuitous riot of blessings, shouting and victory.

God needs an atmosphere to operate in, an environment of Joy to show forth his wonders. This is why the joy of the Lord is our strength. The Devil also needs his own peculiar background. Why do you think Saul depression was lifted by David’s music? The boy shepherd’s music created a spiritual setting that the demons that inflicted Saul could not act in.

I know that sometimes life seems to be a chain reaction of bad happenings and the natural reaction is to wade into a morass of self pity and ask why our lot seems to be different from the rest of the world’s. We wait for people to come encourage us and pat our backs but this is the time to shout. Yeah, yeah, we cannot help it. It is normal to feel down when things go wrong, but that is for people who live in the realm of happiness. Joy is spiritual and it’s like a buoy that the biggest ocean of depression cannot submerge. It is a powerful irrepressible spiritual force. Irrespective of what happens to us, our reaction is a choice. You can decide to be joyful or moody. If moodiness is chosen, you play into the hand of the wily one and allow him breach the castle of your soul. The blue mood creates a milieu for the germs of the enemy to infect the soul. This is when depression, suicidal feelings and bitterness rush in with the violence of a tidal wave. The person becomes putty in the hands of the enemy. Like the Banshee, when we shout for joy and praise the King of Kings when things go wrong, we confuse the enemy. We go against the natural inclination. We live by faith and not by sight.

For all we know, the command for the Children of Israel to shout before barred gates and insurmountable walls would have been preposterous to them. For six days, it must have seemed they were clowning since nothing happened. They were a circus show for Jericho’s citizen’s who must have thought they were mad. They shouted anyway and caused vibrations that broke down the walls! Paul and Silas did the same.

Jesus never promised us a hassle- free life but He promised victory. Without issues, there would be no victory. Even the fantasy world is full of villains but Super heroes usually prevail using their special powers.

The year is drawing to an end and it might seem the good you have seen is infinitesimal compared to all the blessings you expected, shout with thanksgiving! Jesus wanted to feed a crowd and had only a little boy’s lunch. He gave thanks and there was instantaneous multiplication.

Are you stuck in a jam and you are wondering how to get out. In faith, give a shout of praise! Never let up, build up supernatural sonic energy that will bring down the walls of the energy! Create waves of vibrations that will bring heaven to your aid and scatter the camp of darkness. Never let up. Let your shouts ring! Whatever the issue might be, pray, shout, sing, sing and sing through it.

Wait a minute though…… everything depends on whether you believe you are a super hero or not……

Let them shout for joy and be glad that favour my righteous cause, Yea, let them say continually, let the Lord be magnified, Who takes pleasure in the prosperity of his servants…..
